SIGNAL, festival of the light, October 12th- 15th in Prague
In October Prague will be enlightened by the SIGNAL festival. Visitors will be shown round along two routes.
SIGNAL, festival of the light, will take place like in previous years in the middle of October, namely from Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th in Prague, Czech Republic. Visitors to the festival will see about twenty installations by Czech and foreign authors. Installations will be for the first time arranged along two official routes: Downtown and Vinohrady routes.
The SIGNAL festival will celebrate the fifth birthday in October and prepares within its small jubilee for its visitors several important news and changes. The most distinct is the creation of two official routes of the festival. In previous years there was only one route. “The basic idea of the SIGNAL festival is the discovery of the city through art. Art installations, i.e. video mapping, site-specific or static light objects, shall guide the visitors through the streets of Prague and show them its quiet places and known as well as unknown places from a different angle and in different light. The concept of two routes makes this possible. Thanks to this concept, we are able to incorporate a lot of locations into the programme where the SIGNAL has never been held before and we make possible for not only the visitors but also for the inhabitants of Prague to discover much more from the city,” says the director of the festival Martin Pošta. The first route will lead through the historical centre of the city, the other will be situated in the region of Vinohrady, primarily in Prague 2 and 3. “If anyone wish to enjoy the entire festival, we recommend reserving at least two evenings for it. To go along both routes during just one festival evening will hardly be possible,” adds Pošta.

Apart from new locations and a new route, visitors may look forward to a gallery zone. It will consist of four original interior spaces which are made accessible for the public only on rare occasions. These premises will host light installations. It will be possible to visit the gallery zone after buying a ticket worth 100 Czech crowns. The ticket will authorize visitors to enter all four places. Similarly as in previous years, people will pay the entrance fee also to video mapping which requires the use of 3D-glasses. The price will remain 50 Czech crowns for entry. The outdoor sections of the SIGNAL festival stay available free of charge.
The programme of the SIGNAL festival will be created by personalities having expertise at the art of light both from all over the world and the Czech Republic. This year, also the artists taking part in the public open call will join them. The programme department of the festival chose from its progressive and original works of promising artists coming from the Czech Republic or those long-living at the territory of the Czech Republic. During the SIGNAL festival, visitors will also be able to take part in a great number of accompanying activities such as music concerts, theatre performances and workshops.
All current information on the SIGNAL festival is available on www.signalfestival.com. In September, users of mobile device with Android and iOS operation systems will have applications at their disposal. The routes of the festival will be marked on the map which will be available in a paper form directly at the festival.
